You cannot study medicine directly after 12th grade in the United States. Unlike many other countries where you can enroll in an MBBS program immediately, the U.S. requires you to first complete a 4-year undergraduate degree (known as “Pre-Med”) before you can apply to a medical school to earn your MD (Doctor of Medicine). During or after undergrad, students take the MCAT, which is required for most US medical schools. Medical schools evaluate MCAT scores, GPA, research, extracurriculars, clinical exposure, and recommendation letters.
