Archaeology sits at the intersection of history, anthropology, and science. Start by reading foundational texts and following institutions like the Archaeological Survey of India, they occasionally have outreach programs. For international universities, look at UCL’s Archaeology department or the University of Edinburgh, both of which have strong undergrad programs. In India, look at Nalanda, University of Calcutta, Xavier’s College and more. This summer, try to connect with a professor researching ancient history for a mentored research paper, or volunteer with local heritage conservation NGOs. A self-directed field journal documenting local historical sites is also a meaningful and low-cost portfolio piece.
