The academic year in Germany is divided into two main semesters: the Winter Semester and the Summer Semester. Officially, the winter semester runs from 1 October to 31 March and the summer semester runs from 1 April to 30 September each year. Although these are the formal semester dates, lectures typically start a few weeks later, around mid-October for the winter semester and mid-April for the summer semester at many universities, with the winter intake being the primary one for most UG programmes.
