Introduction
UCEED is a computer-based exam conducted at designated test centres and has a duration of three hours. Every year, thousands of design aspirants appear for the exam to secure admission to prestigious institutes such as IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, IIT Roorkee and IIITDM Jabalpur. Many private institutes also accept UCEED scores for admissions to their BDes program.
On 25th May 2026, IIT Bombay announced that UCEED 2027 will be conducted on Sunday, 17 January 2027 (forenoon). Detailed information regarding registration, eligibility, syllabus, application dates, and other guidelines will be released by 1 October 2026 on the official website.
For 2026 admissions, the list of result-sharing institutes using UCEED scores for their BDes programmes included:

UCEED Exam Pattern and Syllabus
UCEED consists of two parts (Part A and Part B), designed to evaluate a candidate’s creativity, design aptitude, logical reasoning, and drawing skills.
Part A includes questions based on topics such as visualization and spatial reasoning, practical and scientific knowledge, observation and design sensitivity, environment and society, analytical and logical reasoning, language proficiency, and creativity. The section tests a candidate’s ability to analyse information, understand design concepts, and think creatively in different situations.
Part B focuses on drawing and design aptitude. Candidates are assessed on their ability to draw products, people, and scenes with proper composition, proportion, perspective, and shading. This section also evaluates problem-solving skills, creativity, empathy, and the ability to respond practically to design-related situation.
UCEED: Overview of the Admissions Process
Step 1: Register for UCEED
- Candidates should register for appearing in UCEED. Registration can be done only online through the Registration Portal.
- Registration Fee for SC, ST, PwD and Female Candidates is INR 2,000 & All Other Candidates is INR 4,000.

Step 2: Appear for the exam at various test centres
UCEED is conducted as a computer-based test at designated examination centres across India. The examination duration is three hours and evaluates candidates on design aptitude, creativity, visualization skills, logical reasoning, and problem-solving ability.
Students were also instructed to follow examination guidelines:
- Electronic gadgets such as mobile phones, smart watches, calculators, tablets, and similar devices were strictly prohibited.
- Candidates were not allowed to carry study materials, geometry boxes, log books, or other unauthorized items into the exam hall.
- Candidates had to bring their own pencils in a transparent packet.
- Only black shades were permitted for drawing purposes.
- Sketch pens, colour pencils, poster colours, and other colouring materials were not allowed.
- Candidates could carry an A4-size writing board.
Step 3: View results and download score card from the candidate portal
The UCEED 2026 results were declared on 6 March 2026 on the official website. Candidates were required to log in using their registered credentials to access their results.
Note:
- Obtaining a rank in UCEED does not guarantee admission to the BDes programme.
- Qualified candidates receive an All India Rank (AIR).
- UCEED and BDes admissions are two different activities. The category-wise rank obtained in UCEED indicates the candidate’s position in the respective category at the time of the result declaration.
- Score cards are available only in digital format.
- The UCEED score is valid only for the corresponding academic year, while digital copies of the scorecards are maintained by the UCEED office for five years.
Step 4: Apply for BDes Admissions
Only candidates qualified in UCEED are eligible to apply for BDes admissions at the participating institutes. Admission offers made during the seat allocation process are provisional and subject to document verification, fee payment, and completion of admission formalities by the respective institutes.
