At the time you make your visa application, if you have held a UK Student Visa valid for 12 months, you may be exempt from demonstrating any evidence of your finances.
Course fees
- You need to show you have enough money to pay your course fees for the first year. These are shown on your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).
- Your education provider will send your CAS when they offer you a place on a course.
Changes to financial evidence requirements for Student visa applications
As part of the Student visa application, you must show you have sufficient funds to cover living costs for each month of your course, up to a maximum of nine months.
The amounts of money students will be required to have available as evidence of meeting the maintenance requirements are increasing, for those applying under the Student route on or after 11 November 2025. The new amounts are as follows:
- £1529 per month in London (up to a maximum of 9 months)
- £1171 per month outside London (up to a maximum of 9 months)
This means the maximum amount you need to show for living costs will be £10,539. This amount, combined with tuition fees for one academic year must be held for at least 28 consecutive days before applying. The statement cannot be older than 31 days when you submit your visa application.
If you apply for the Student visa before 11 November 2025, you will not be affected by this change. For an explanation of ‘financial requirements’ for those applying under the ‘Student’ immigration route, please see UKCISA – international student advice and guidance – Student route: eligibility and requirements.
