Scholarship Opportunities at the University of Hong Kong (HKU)

Founded in 1911, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) is the oldest and one of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in Hong Kong.

Automatically-Considered Scholarships (No Application Required)

This section covers scholarships for which eligible students are automatically considered at admission.

1. HKU Foundation Scholarship for President’s Scholars

• About the Scholarship: Awarded to the top scorers newly-admitted undergraduate students each year
• Scholarship Amount: Up to full tuition fees plus accommodation and living allowances and an Enrichment Scholarship

2. HKU Entrance Scholarships for International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Students

• About the Scholarship: Awarded to newly admitted students who achieve 44 or above in IB Diploma
• Amount: Up to full tuition fees

3. HKU Full-Ride Scholarship for Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Top Talents

• About the Scholarship: Awarded to newly admitted students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance in the CBSE examinations, along with outstanding extracurricular achievements
• Amount: Up to full tuition fees plus accommodation and living allowance

4. HKU Entrance Scholarships for Students with Indian Board Examinations

• About the Scholarship: Awarded to newly admitted students who achieve 97% for the India Senior Secondary Certificate Examination or Indian School Certificate Examinations 
• Amount: Up to full tuition fees plus allowances

5. HKU Entrance Scholarships for Outstanding Students (Other Qualifications Holders)

• About the Scholarship: Outstanding students newly admitted to HKU’s undergraduate programmes or university collaborative programmes
• Amount: Up to full tuition fees

6. HKU Scholarships for Future Leaders

• About the scholarship: Outstanding undergraduates who are from economies in transition and have demonstrated evidence of excellence and outstanding leadership and commitment to HK
• Amount: Full tuition scholarship or more

7. The Faculty of Architecture Scholarship for Architecture Students

• About the scholarship: Awarded to deserving students, based on academic merit, who have been offered admission into the BA(AS) or BASc(Design+) Programme 
• Amount:  At least HK$10,000

8. Barry Will Memorial Entrance Scholarship

• About the scholarship: Established to award top applicants for the BA(AS) programme
• Amount: HK$44,500

9. HKU Technovation Scholarship

• About the scholarship : Outstanding students who have enrolled in STEM related degree programmes. Besides having strong commitment in I&T sector and great vision in using technology to improve society, the awardees need to demonstrate outstanding academic achievement as well as having track records in solid innovation and leadership skills
• Amount: HK$40,000

10. Academy for Young Global Arts Leaders Scholarship

• About the scholarship: Outstanding non-local students newly admitted to the following programmes: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Arts in Global Creative Industries, Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and Digital Technologies, and Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Engineering in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science
• Amount: Up to full tuition fees

11. School of Computing and Data Science Entrance Scholarship

• About the scholarship: Awarded to local and non-local students newly admitted to the School with outstanding results in the relevant public examinations
• Amount: HK$200,000

12. Statistical Decision Sciences Entrance Scholarship

• About the scholarship: Awarded to local and non-local students newly admitted to the Bachelor of Statistics programme with outstanding results in the relevant public examinations
• Amount: HK$50,000 – HK$100,000

13. Computing and Data Science Entrance Scholarship

• About the scholarship:  Awarded to local and non-local students newly admitted to the BEng(CompSc) and BEng(AI&DataSc) programmes with outstanding results in the relevant public examinations
• Amount: HK$50,000 – HK$100,000

14. Tongcheng Travel Scholarship

• About the scholarship:  Awarded to local and non-local students newly admitted to the BASc (Applied Artificial Intelligence), BEng (Artificial Intelligence and Data Science) and BEng (Computer Science) programmes with outstanding results in the relevant public examinations
• Amount:Up to HK$300,000

15. Statistics and Actuarial Science Scholarships

• About the scholarship:  Awarded to students newly admitted to the BSc (Actuarial Science) programmes with outstanding results in the relevant public examinations. 
• Amount: HK$20,000

Application-Based Scholarships (Apply Separately)

This section lists scholarships that require interested students to submit a separate application after admission or based on specific calls for applications. 

16. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Chairman’s Scholarship

• About the Scholarship: Prestigious scholarship that aims to attract students with exceptional academic achievements to pursue their undergraduate studies in Hong Kong
• Amount: Up to full tuition fees plus allowance
• Process: Students currently studying in secondary schools in Hong Kong should apply through principal nomination. Deadline to be announced. 

17. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Striding On Scholarship

• About the scholarship: Aims to recognise students who have achieved excellence while demonstrating resilience and strength of mind to overcome adversities or challenges in life
• Amount: Up to full tuition fees plus allowance
• Process: Applications must be submitted via the scholarship website by the application deadline. Deadline to be announced. 

18. Music Scholarship Scheme

• About the scholarship: Outstanding Bachelor of Arts students whose pre-university experience includes a significant commitment to the pursuit of music excellence as well as to their formal academic studies.
• Amount:  TBD
• Process: Applicants are required to complete the online application for the Music Scholarship Scheme by 30th Jan 2026.  To complete the application form, you are required to submit a number of personal, academic and employment details, including an essay and a video. 

19. HKU Sports Scholarship Scheme

• About the scholarship: Alternative admission pathway for outstanding athletes to study in the University
• Amount:Up to full tuition fees plus allowances
• Process: Please complete and submit the online application form if you would like to be considered for admission under the Sports Admissions Scheme. Application Period: 24 September, 2025 – 7 December, 2025 (23:59 Hong Kong Time).
