NLSIU Bangalore Admission 2026

NLSIU was the first National Law University established in India to pioneer legal education reforms. The University has remained a leader in the field of legal education in India for over 30 years. NLSIU has been consistently ranked No 1 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework since 2018.

About the University

The National Law School of India University was set up through a unique collaboration between the members of the Bar, legal academia, and the judiciary, to be the pioneering institute of legal education in India. NLSIU’s sprawling 23-acre campus in Nagarabhavi, Bengaluru, is home to a vibrant student community that includes student associations and events. 

NLSIU offers two undergraduate programmes 

  1. The five-year integrated undergraduate BA LLB (Hons) Degree Programme.
    • Admission to this 5-year programme is purely on the basis of merit as assessed through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) administered by the Consortium of NLUs.
    • The first cohort of this programme was admitted in 1988.
    • The total intake capacity shall be 310 students for AY 2025-26. 
  1. The three-year NLS BA (Hons) programme
    • In the academic year 2025-26, the University welcomed its first cohort of the programme.
    • Students have the option of an additional 4th year in the research track. The academic year for the programme will commence on July 1, 2026.
    • The maximum intake for 2026-27 is 60 and only students qualifying as per the criteria set out below will be admitted.

Fee Structure 

  • The total amount payable by SC/ST category students is Rs. 4,50,000 per annum.
  • The total amount payable by other students is Rs. 4,54,500 per annum.

How to apply?

  • Admission to the 5-Year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) and the 1 Year LL.M. degree programmes, is through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)
  • Admission to BA (Hons) is through an all-India written admissions test: NLSAT- BA. 
  • The NLSAT-BA will be held on April 27. 2025, from 10am to 12:30pm in specified test centres across the country.
  • The NLSAT-BA will have a single question paper comprising two parts – Parts A and B. Part A: Multiple-Choice Questions and shall be for a maximum of 75 marks; Part B: Subjective questions, which shall be for a maximum of 75 marks.

  • November 15, 2025: Admission Portal Open
  • March 23, 2026: Last date for submitting application and application fee payment.
  • April 26, 2026: NLSAT 2026 Examination Date
