Overview of NIT Trichy
Situated on an expansive 800-acre campus in Thuvakudi along the Trichy-Tanjore highway, NIT, Tiruchirappalli today stands as a premier institution in the country, ranked first among all NITs and ninth among engineering institutions in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Government of India. History & Background
- Founded in 1964 as Regional Engineering College (REC) Tiruchirappalli through a collaborative effort of the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu.
- In 2003, REC was granted deemed university status and renamed National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli.
- In 2007, NIT Trichy was declared an Institution of National Importance by an act of Parliament.
