Over the years, IIIT Hyderabad has evolved into a research-oriented hub with a strong focus on technology and applied research that serves both industry and society. The institute promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and a seamless exchange of knowledge between students, faculty and research initiatives.

Introduction

Situated on a 66-acre campus in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, IIIT-H is surrounded by prominent academic and research institutions, including Hyderabad Central University and the Indian School of Business (ISB). It is also close to key industry and commercial centres such as TCS-CMC, Indian Immunologicals, as well as the bustling HiTech City Centre.

The institute houses several world-renowned centres of excellence and fosters joint collaborations and co-innovation models with a wide range of national and multinational organisations. Its innovative curriculum offers students flexibility in course and project selection, blending rigorous coursework with practical experience. Beyond academics, IIIT-H supports a holistic student life that includes arts and culture, sports, community engagement and self-governance.

One of the institute’s defining strengths is how undergraduates participate in real research and technology development early on, a feature that is rare among Indian technical universities.

UG Programmes

IIIT-H offers 4-year B.Tech degrees in two core areas:

It also offers 5-year integrated dual-degree programmes, combining a B.Tech with an M.S. by Research across several specialisations:

  • B Tech and Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering by Research
  • B Tech and Master of Science in Electronics and Communication Engineering by Research
  • B.Tech in Computer Science and Master of Science in Computational Natural Sciences by Research
  • B.Tech in Computer Science and Master of Science in Computational Linguistics by Research
  • B.Tech in Computer Science and Master of Science in Computing & Human Sciences by Research

Tuition Fee

The annual tuition fee for undergraduate programmes at IIIT Hyderabad is approximately ₹4,50,000 per year and may be revised for 2026. In addition to tuition, students are responsible for hostel charges (around ₹4,000 per month) and mess charges (around ₹5,000 per month), which are typically paid semester-wise before the start of each semester.

For students enrolled in dual-degree programmes, it is customary that in the fifth year the tuition fee is supported by the student’s Research Advisor, research centre, or the institute for meritorious candidates, effectively reducing the financial burden in the final year.

How to Apply? (2026 Dates to be announced)

The institute uses multiple modes of admission like:

  • UGEE – Institute’s own Undergraduate Entrance Exam (for all dual degrees).
  • JEE (Main) – Use 2026 JEE Main scores (for single degrees).
  • SPEC – Special Channel Of Admission for single-degree programmes.
  • LEEE – Lateral Entry Entrance Examination for all dual-degree programmes.
  • Olympiad – For Olympiad winners.
  • DASA – Direct Admissions for Students Abroad (NRI / Foreign candidates).
  • Boards Mode – Based on Class 12 board scores.

Based on their eligibility and preference, students can pick one of the above application channels.

Conclusion

Unlike traditional engineering schools with rigid departmental boundaries, IIIT-H is structured around interdisciplinary research centres (over 25) that bring together faculty and students to tackle real-world challenges in areas such as AI, robotics, data science, language technologies and cybersecurity.

IIIT Hyderabad stands out in India’s academic landscape not only for its rankings and placement outcomes, but also for its culture of innovation, research integration, and societal impact.  It blends rigorous education with real-world problem solving, making it a top choice for students who want to shape the future of technology, not just study it.

If you aspire to be part of this technology and research ecosystem, keep an eye on the 2026 undergraduate admissions updates on the official IIIT Hyderabad portal. Choose the right application mode, and start your journey toward impactful research and careers.
