Introduction
The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national-level entrance examination for admission to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programmes offered by participating National Law Universities in India.
CLAT is conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities, an association of participating National Law Universities. The Consortium is responsible for organising the examination and facilitating the admission process for participating law schools.
When will the CLAT exam be held this year?
The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2027 will be held on December 6, 2026. Registration is open from August 3 to October 31, 2026 for students seeking admission to undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes at participating National Law Universities in India.

CLAT UG 2027 Exam Pattern
The CLAT UG 2027 examination will be a two-hour test with 120 multiple-choice questions carrying one mark each. There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer. The examination pattern and sections will remain unchanged from the previous cycle.

Eligibility
- There is no upper age limit for candidates appearing for UG Programme.
- Candidates who have passed in 10+2 or an equivalent examination with a minimum of:
- Forty five percent (45%) of marks or its equivalent in grade or
- Forty Percent (40%) of marks or equivalent in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD categories.
- Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination in March/ April, 2027 are also eligible to apply. However, they shall be required to produce an evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission, failing which they shall lose their right to be considered for admission.

Application fee can be paid online only and is non-refundable.
- Application fee for General/OBC candidates: Rs.4,000/-
- Application fee for SC/ST/BPL/PwD category candidates: Rs.3,500/-
What about NLU Delhi?
National Law University Delhi conducts its own entrance examination, the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), for admission to its law programmes. Students interested in NLU Delhi should check the university’s official admission notification separately, as AILET is not conducted through CLAT.
