What is the SAT exam?
The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is a globally recognized standardized entrance exam widely used for undergraduate college admissions in the United States and accepted by many universities around the world, including in India. It assesses a student’s readiness for college by evaluating skills in evidence-based reading, writing, and mathematics.
The SAT is administered by the College Board and is delivered in a fully digital, computer-adaptive format. In this setup, the difficulty of some questions adjusts based on the student’s performance during the test, creating a more responsive testing experience compared with the traditional paper-based exam.
How is the SAT structured?
The following table shows how much time you get for each section and the number of questions for each section:
| Component | Time Allotted (minutes) | Number of Questions/Tasks |
| Reading and Writing | 64 (two 32-minute modules) | 54 |
| Math | 70 (two 35-minute modules) | 44 |
| Total | 134 | 98 |
Each section is split into two equal-length modules. After the first module of each section, the second module adapts in difficulty based on your performance on the first. There is also a 10-minute break between the Reading & Writing and Math sections.
