Laurea Triennale & Laurea Magistrale
The university system is organized in 3 academic cycles: the 1st cycle is the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree (Laurea triennale) and lasts 3 years. This Bachelor’s grants access to a Master’s degree (Laurea Magistrale) which is considered the 2nd cycle, and gives access to 3rd cycle PhD programmes (Dottorato di Ricerca).
Students can apply to an Italian University only if they have a qualification of secondary education awarded after a study period of at least 12 years.
Short Specialisation programmes – “Master di I livello” and “Master di II livello”
It is a postgraduate programme of 1st and 2nd level. It lasts 1 or 2 years and it focuses on specific subjects. It provides practical professional and specialist skills for the placement in the job market.
The Credit System (ECTS)
The European Credit Transfer System is used to measure the student’s workload of every single course. Credits measure the workload of class attendance, classwork, laboratory work and individual study. It is possible to obtain credits for other training courses, or project works, group works, theses, internships, knowledge of foreign languages or basic computing skills, and training in communication and public relations.
One credit corresponds to a workload of about 25 hours and the yearly workload for an average study course corresponds to about 60 credits.
Student Visa
Once pre-enrolled, apply for a D-VISA, in case the duration of your course exceeds 90 days, OR apply for a C-VISA in case the duration of your course is less than 90 days.
CIMEA Certificate
The Credential Information Service (CIS) is operational through CIMEA, a certification and comparability service for Italian and foreign qualifications, in order to make academic titles in the national and international context increasingly understandable and recognizable.
Declaration of Value (DOV)
The Declaration of Value (DOV) is an informative document requested by an Italian Higher Education Institution for granting admission to Italian Universities. It is issued by the territorial competent Italian Diplomatic Missions abroad- according to the State where the degree/school certificate has been issued- and it describes the educational qualification pursued and the duration of study carried out by the foreign person in his/her Country of origin.
It is mandatory for the students to submit in person their DOV request.
Permesso di Soggiorno
The ‘Permesso’ is a first thing for Non-EU citizens after their arrival in Italy. For your first entry, you will have a long-term visa obtained from relevant authorities, and officially within 8 working days you are supposed to apply for a ‘permit of stay’ for your purpose of stay.
