Introduction

TOEFL measures an individual’s ability to understand and use English in academic settings such as lectures, group work, presentations, and discussions. The test is used for multiple purposes, including study, work, and immigration. It helps ensure that candidates have the language skills needed to succeed in an academic environment abroad.

Countries Accepting TOEFL iBT Score

The TOEFL iBT® test is widely accepted by over 13,000 institutions in more than 160 countries worldwide, including all major study destinations such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Germany.

You can use the TOEFL Destinations Search tool to find institutions that accept TOEFL® scores. Simply enter the institution’s name or search by location to view a list of accepting institutions, along with their DI code, website, and location. All universities and institutions listed in this database accept TOEFL scores.

However, requirements may vary by institution. It is always recommended to check the specific admission criteria of the university or course you are applying to before submitting your scores.

Test Section and Timing Overview

The test is divided into four sections, each designed to assess a key academic English skill:

  • Reading – Tests your ability to understand academic texts
  • Listening – Measures how well you understand lectures and conversations
  • Speaking – Evaluates your ability to express ideas clearly in English
  • Writing – Assesses your ability to write responses based on academic tasks

Current Scoring System:

  • Each section (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing) is scored on a 1–6 scale in 0.5 increments
