# I want to pursue litigation but am worried about low starting salaries and slow growth as a first-generation lawyer. What is the realistic path?

Litigation can have a difficult early-career phase, particularly when starting independently or with a small chamber. A realistic path is to build strong fundamentals through sustained chamber experience, court exposure, drafting, research and professional networks. Income varies significantly by senior, practice area, location and individual practice, so there is no reliable "standard salary" for litigation. Corporate law can offer a more structured starting career, but it also comes with demanding workloads.
