# Is a law degree from abroad valid in India?

A foreign law degree is not automatically recognised for practising law in India. For an Indian citizen, the degree must be from a foreign university recognised by the Bar Council of India (BCI), and the graduate must meet the BCI's equivalence requirements and pass the Qualifying Examination for Indian Nationals Holding Foreign Law Degrees, along with fulfilling the applicable enrolment requirements. The route can also depend on the structure and duration of the foreign law degree.
