# Do AP Exams provide university credit or allow students to skip introductory courses?

Some universities award academic credit, advanced placement or permission to take higher-level courses based on AP scores.
The score required and the benefit awarded vary by university, degree and subject.
Students should distinguish between AP scores being considered for admission and AP scores being used for credit after admission. A university may consider AP scores during admissions without awarding credit for them.
