# Can international students work in Japan after graduation?

Yes, subject to immigration requirements.
Graduates who obtain eligible employment generally need to change their residence status from Student to an appropriate work-authorised category.
Eligible graduates who have not secured employment may be able to remain in Japan for job hunting under the Designated Activities status, generally for six months with a possible six-month extension.
This permission is not automatic and requires meeting the relevant conditions.
