# Can I take an AP Exam without attending an AP course?

Yes. The College Board allows students to prepare independently and take an AP Exam without completing the corresponding course.
Students should study the official course and exam description, review the syllabus and practise using released questions and scoring guidelines.
However, they must still arrange registration through a school or test centre that administers the examination. Some AP subjects also have specific project or portfolio requirements.
