Founded in 1824, The University of Manchester is a large research university with an established international student community. The University currently reports more than 1,300 students from India and highlights its long-standing academic and research links with the country.
For 2027, the University is ranked 40th globally in the QS World University Rankings, with the University reporting a UK position of eighth. It also reports a first-place position globally in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings 2026.
What is the Global Futures Scholarship?
The Global Futures Scholarships are The University of Manchester’s merit-based awards for international students. For September 2027 entry, the University says it is offering more than 350 partial scholarships across undergraduate and master’s study, with awards worth more than £6 million in total.
For undergraduate students from South Asia, the scholarship is available to applicants domiciled in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
What does the scholarship cover?

Continuation of the award is conditional on achieving 60% in examinations and assessments each year.
The scholarship therefore reduces tuition fees but does not cover other costs associated with studying in the UK, such as accommodation, living expenses, travel or visa costs.
Who can apply for the 2027 undergraduate scholarship?
The Global Futures Scholarships for South Asia are open to international fee-paying students domiciled in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan or Sri Lanka.
For the purpose of the scholarship, students must have predominantly lived in their country of domicile during the previous three years. Applicants must also:
- Be applying for direct first-year undergraduate entry in 2027.
- Be studying, or working towards, A-levels, the IB Diploma, or an eligible Indian Standard XII qualification.

- Be self-funded and not sponsored.

Which courses are not eligible?
The scholarship does not apply to:
- Medicine (MBChB)
- Dentistry (BDS)
- Architecture
- Courses with an integrated foundation year
- Blended or distance-learning programmes
Students who have previously studied in the UK are also not eligible for this undergraduate award.
How are scholarship applications assessed?
The scholarship is primarily based on academic merit. The University says applications will be assessed using factors including:
- Previous examination results
- Predicted grades
- Achieved grades, where available
- The strength of the applicant’s personal statement
- The online scholarship application
The University may also consider the overall composition of the scholarship cohort, including representation across academic programmes, domicile, gender and qualification background. Meeting the eligibility requirements therefore does not automatically guarantee a scholarship.
Do you need a University of Manchester offer before applying?
Yes. Students cannot access the scholarship application form before receiving an eligible offer. The University says the application form will be emailed automatically to eligible offer-holders from December 2026 onwards, through to the application closing date.
Students should therefore begin with their undergraduate application to The University of Manchester rather than waiting for a separate scholarship application to open.
